A short 60 min car ride along the N2 from East London leads you through the winding and weaving landscape synonymous with the Eastern Cape. Green grasslands dotted with cattle and sheep pass your eye as you settle into the rhythm of the journey. Leaving behind the hustle and bustle, the demands and expectations, the grind.
Turning off the N2 towards Kei Mouth, the road weaves its way down to the banks of the Kei River. A bustle of locals converging on the edges of the banks, showcasing their handmade wears of beautifully weaved baskets and beaded goods. Humble, happy faces greeting you as you reach the water’s edge where the ferry awaits to float you across the Kei into the Transkei.
A multitude of coloured huts dotted across the rolling hills are a vast contrast to the built-up cities. Children, live-stock, and pedestrians clothed in traditional gear pass by in a refreshing and nostalgic way. The short 11km drive through the vast expanse of open land gives way to the breath-taking view as you approach the entrance to Seagulls Beach Hotel. An exhale, a deep inhale of fresh sea air; the distant sounds of seagulls in signals the start of a surreal and restful stay.

Our newly renovated rooms are dotted around our spacious grounds, offering a tranquil and charming space to unwind and recharge. Serenity, you soon realize, is created not by the absence of sound, but the presence of a certain kind of sound–specifically, the sound of the sea which can be heard as you drift off to sleep.
Inside our family and double rooms, you are met with a clean and uncluttered space. Calmness and comfort are an important part of the Seagulls experience, and the fresh, light rooms ensure the sea air and sunshine fill the space. Breakfast and dinner are served in our spacious dining room or patio overlooking the sweeping grounds and the sea. We have a full breakfast menu available, lending itself to lazy starts and full tummies.
Lunch is served in our Beach Bar. Served and prepared by expert local hands and enjoyed whilst soaking in the expansive view.
